First Saturday Lite @ Brooklyn Museum

Kick off our season of First Saturday Lite—a low-key, free outdoor afternoon amplifying culture and community in our borough. In May, we’re celebrating springtime abundance with healing music and art-making inspired by Lorraine O’Grady: Both/And. Gyal Tings Soundsystem (featuring Felukah, Shirine Saad, Boston Chery, and Illexxandra) takes over the plaza steps with sounds from Cairo to Haiti, Kingston, and San Juan. Plus, shop and snack all day long at the Brooklyn Pop-Up market, which is spotlighting Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage and vendors who focus on wellness.

This outdoor event is free and open to the public. Please reserve tickets in advance to visit the galleries. A limited number of timed tickets will be available on-site on a first-come, first-served basis.

This event takes place outdoors. We’re following procedures and guidelines laid out by the CDC and local health officials, including practicing social distancing for all activities. Masks are required for all adults and children over the age of 2. Indoor restrooms will be available.

For over twenty-one years, we’ve hosted First Saturdays—monthly evenings of free programming welcoming visitors from central Brooklyn and beyond—at the Brooklyn Museum. While the Museum won’t be hosting indoor public programs during the summer of 2021, we’re continuing our commitment to bringing engaging arts and culture to you with First Saturday Lite, a low-key outdoor afternoon in the spirit of our beloved flagship program. Meet us on the plaza on Eastern Parkway at 2–6 pm on May 1, June 5, and August 7, 2021, for live music and DJ sets, local vendors, and art-making in celebration of our communities.

The event is finished.
